Accidente de avión en Corea del Sur dejó 179 muertos y solo dos supervivientes
El accidente de un avión de la compañía Jeju Air al aterrizar en Muan, Corea del Sur, al parecer provocado por un choque con pájaros, dejó 179 muertos y dos supervivientes este domingo, informaron las autoridades.
De las 181 personas que iban a bordo del aparato, solo dos, miembros de la tripulación, pudieron ser rescatadas del avión en llamas. “De los 179 muertos, 65 fueron identificados”, explicaron los bomberos surcoreanos, precisando que las pruebas de ADN siguen su curso.
El avión cubría el vuelo JJA-2216 entre la capital de Tailandia, Bangkok, y Muan, en el suroeste de Corea del Sur. De las 181 personas que iban a bordo, 175 eran pasajeros y seis eran miembros de la tripulación.
El accidente se produjo este domingo a las 09H03 (00H03 GMT), afirmaron las autoridades. El Ministerio de Territorios indicó que la torre de control advirtió a la tripulación que se había producido una colisión con pájaros. El piloto emitió un mensaje de alerta (“Mayday”), poco antes de que el aparato se estrellara al aterrizar.
“Se presume que la causa del accidente habría sido un choque con pájaros, combinado con condiciones climáticas adversas”, indicó Lee Jeong-hyun, jefe de bomberos de Muan, una localidad a unos 290 km al sur de Seúl.
“Sin embargo, la causa exacta será anunciada después de una investigación conjunta”, agregó. La cadena de televisión local MBC mostró imágenes del aterrizaje del avión de Jeju Air, un Boeing 737-8AS, según Flight Radar, con humo saliendo de sus motores antes de quedar envuelto en llamas al chocar con una barrera.
Un oficial de bomberos explicó a familiares de las víctimas que “los pasajeros fueron expulsados del avión después de colisionar con la barrera, dejando pocas posibilidades de sobrevivencia”. “El avión quedó casi completamente destruido y resulta difícil identificar” los restos, agregó el oficial.
En la terminal, familiares y allegados afligidos esperaban información sobre sus seres queridos, llorando. El jefe del Estado interino, Choi Sang-mok, nombrado el viernes en un país sacudido por una grave crisis política, presidió una reunión de emergencia del gobierno y visitó Muan por la tarde.
El fabricante del avión, Boeing, indicó que está en contacto con Jeju Air y que está “dispuesto a brindar su apoyo”. Jeju Air, una aerolínea surcoreana de bajo costo creada en 2005, presentó sus “sinceras disculpas”.
