Donde la reina infiel [y patriótica] se entiende con el duque de Buckingham, el archienemigo británico de su esposo, el rey Luis XIII. Un tipo bien intencionado, frágil, de carácter indeciso [encarnado en esta ocasión por Louis Garrel]. Inclusive, cuando se comparte plano con otro personaje, queda claro que la notable compañía con la que podrá contar, va a ser la de su propio reflejo, si bien, no hay espejos en la escena. Además, filme, donde la mujer sobrelleva una y otra vez, los débiles efectos de existir en un mundo que se desmorona, pues nada en él pareciese ser lógico. ¡Ah! Y un rey en manos del cardenal Richelieu, y de un Estado a punto de ceder en una nueva y fratricida ofensiva de religión.
Se compensa entonces que sentado frente a la butaca las dos horas que dura la cinta en su proyección, en este tipo de cine [clásicos de capa y espada, de aventuras y la propia novela], nos lleve de las emociones a acentuar temas que hoy logren gozar de más notabilidad y amistad, más simpatía y lealtad [que patriotismo monárquico]: “todos para uno” que “uno para todos”.
