Del 13 al 15 de diciembre de este 2024, el municipio de San Juan del Cesar se viste de gala para recibir a los turistas, amantes de la cultura y el folclor que llegan a disfrutar de una nueva edición del Festival Nacional de Compositores, que este año rinde homenaje al desaparecido acordeonero sanjuanero Juancho Rois y al cantante urumitero ganador del Grammy Latino, Silvestre Dangond.
Durante estos tres días en los que se desarrollan concursos de canción inédita, las notas de Juancho y de piqueria, exaltando el talento innato de esta región, los visitantes también aprovechan para conocer más sobre sus tradiciones, su cultura, las bellezas naturales que ofrece y su imponente luna sanjuanera.
San Juan del Cesar fue escogido por el Ministerio de Comercio y Fontur como “Municipio que enamora” , iniciativa que busca visibilizar destinos turísticos poco conocidos en los pueblos.
En San Juan el visitante puede apreciar la naturaleza y paisajes hermosos, cuenta con dos grandes ecosistemas como la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta y la Serranía del Perijá, bañado por las aguas del Río Cesar y Ranchería, se disfruta de los balnearios como El Totumo, el Pozo la Estrella en El Placer, El Salto de Corral de Piedras, El Manantial de Cañaverales, el Salto de la Peña, la Represa del Río Ranchería y también de la naturaleza que se evidencia en corregimientos como Los Pondores, Cañaverales, Zambrano, Los Haticos, Lagunita, El Tablazo, Caracolí Sabanas de Manuela y La Sierrita.

En el corregimiento de La Junta los turistas llegan y recorren la ruta de El Cacique que incluye el paseo por la ventana marroncita y la Casa Galería ‘Rosa Elvira Díaz’, y a un paso está Carrizal, tierra donde nació Diomedes, donde está ubicado su museo.
En el casco urbano, los visitantes disfrutan también de la arquitectura republicana de algunas de sus viviendas y de la iglesia San Juan Bautista, ubicadas en el marco de la Plaza Simón Bolívar, recientemente remodelada, al igual que de la Plaza Santander donde está ubicada la tarima Juancho Rois, lugar en el que durante muchos años se realizó el Festival Nacional de Compositores, que desde hace un par de años se adelanta en el estadio municipal.
Las delicias gastronómicas de la población también enamoran a propios y turistas, las exquisitas preparaciones y la buena sazón son referente en toda la zona, ya que son el reflejo de la riqueza cultural donde se mezclan los sabores indígenas, afro y mestizos. El chivo guisado, el friche, las arepas y bollos de queso, el sancocho de gallina, el mondongo, el arroz de libro apastelado, los dulces típicos, entre otros, hacen parte de esta gastronomía.
Otro de los grandes atractivos de este municipio es el calor de su gente, su hospitalidad, su sencillez, su buen humor y solidaridad, siempre dispuesta a hacer sentir al viajero como en casa.
